The Micallef family have a long tradition in providing local produced delicacies to the local market. It all started in the late 1930 when Kalcidon Micallef started to sell from his cart and horse a selection of preserved salted food items available in those times mainly in the village of origin Zebbug, Malta.
The business was taken up 1950 , when his son Emanuel joined his father and commenced manufacturing Helwa tat-Tork, based on an old recipe passed from generation to generation in the Micallef’s family. Il-Helwa tat-Tork which starting carrying the Camel logo become the leading brand and a household name in the islands of Malta. Emanuel,in later years ,was joined by members of the family, expanding further the range of products including a variety of mediterrenean cuisine products ranging from locally produced Bigilla, a variety of flavoured dips and a range of cheeses. The firm also embarked on the importation of a number of quality products to compliment their range of local produced portfolio.
In 1995, the company moved to larger premises Zebbug to accommodate further the production and storage of an increased volume due to high demand of their products in the local market.
A new company Camel Brand Marketing Co. Ltd was created to handle the selling, marketing and promotion of the now ever expanding range of locally produced and imported products in the dry and chilled range.
The rapid expansion, as the leading manufacturer of Mediterranean delicacies, necessitated in 2019 ,that the company moves to bigger premises in Handaq. The spacious three level premises with a total floor space of over 7500 square metres enabled the company to build a state of the art facility incorporating the latest technological advanced production machinery plant. The warehousing of dry and chilled products and their logistics ranks as one of the centre of excellence in the local food processing industry in Malta.
